It’s Shrove Tuesday once again, which signals that the important Christian date of Lent is about to start.
This special day is known for using all the dairy products and fats from your fridge to make delicious fluffy pancakes, which is why some people call it Pancake Tuesday.
Since it is an important and traditional day in the Christian calendar, we have opted to share a fabulous traditional pancake recipe.
Don’t be fooled by the word ‘traditional’; the recipe is pretty simple to put together and you could even involve the kids.
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted
Step 1
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the centre and pour in the milk, egg and melted butter; mix until smooth.
Step 2
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.
Now all you have to do, is serve them up and enjoy them with the family!
