This Abu Dhabi restaurant serves up tasty dishes and (probably) the best views in the capital

The Hawksbill Restaurant at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club just updated its menu, so we headed there to investigate.

REVIEW: One of the beauties of Abu Dhabi is that within a 15 minute drive – or even less – you leave the urban sprawl far behind you.

And that’s exactly what Team Yalla did when we headed to Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, no, not for a round of golf, as none of us are golfers per se.

However, we do enjoy good food and we’d heard that Hawksbill Restaurant serves up some of the best dishes around.

The restaurant is worth visiting for the views alone. You can dine inside of course, but choose the terrace and you’ll be rewarded with stunning green vistas that gently fall away to the clear blue waters.

And if you are lucky – we were – you’ll spot gazelles bounding across the course.

The Hawksbill Restaurant is a busy place that keeps Executive Chef Rasika Nuwan Jayawickrama and his team on their toes, concocting international dishes for all tastes.

He had just curated a new a la carte menu that we were lucky enough to order from.

One misconception about the Hawksbill is that it’s just for members. Granted it’s popular with such, but anybody can and should dine there.

If you choose to – and you should – you could be tucking into mains such as Blackened Salmon, which Chef Rasika informed us is one of the most popular dishes on the menu.

We also ordered from the grill some rather succulent Australian lamb chops, which are popular with locals he tells us. The chops certainly didn’t disappoint, nor did the USDA Certified 300g Rib Eye Steak and Beef Tenderloin.

Servings are generous, especially after we had tucked into some rather delicious appetisers.

It seems we have a knack for choosing the most popular dishes. With tender pieces of fried chicken coated in Gochujang sauce, sesame seeds and peanuts, we could certainly taste why the Korean Chicken dish is so sought-after.

It’s not just about the meat, though. Chef Rasika explains how the dishes are healthy and cooked to order. “Our menu is about health too. We have eight vegan dishes on the menu and we will increase them in the coming months,” he says.

Did we leave enough room for deserts? You bet!  The Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake is huge and the ganache filled layer cake is good for sharing, if you are feeling generous. Another contender for our sweet tooth was the Baked Cheesecake with white chocolate and assorted berries.

All in all, simply delicious! Bon appétit!
