Children’s House Montessori in Khalifa City A, Abu Dhabi, has been welcoming children into its care since January 2016. This is a nursery that offers Montessori education with exceptional standards and an uncompromising approach to quality for children aged from 45 days to 5 years.

The youngest of our children belong in the Baby Monty’s class. In this class the children are aged from 45 days to 18 months. The small secure environment allows babies the freedom to explore through sensory, physical and cognitive activities, whilst ensuring strong positive relationships are formed with their carers and teaching staff. The Baby Monty’s class has an open plan play area, a separate sleep room along with a purpose-built kitchenette to prepare milk feeds and food. A Nursery Nurse is always on site to support Mums and babies during these very important early stages.

At Children’s House Montessori, the nursery recognises that the early years is the time for intense bonding between babies and parents/carers/teaching staff. Here babies learn the rules of human relationships in the first months of speech development with their special adults in their lives. The nursery staff are aware of the importance of being responsive to children’s early attempts to communicate, which in turn will build the child’s self-confidence and feelings of respect and self-worth. Rhyme time and story time are important parts of the daily routine to further develop and extend the children’s vocabulary and communication skills.

Dr. Maria Montessori developed an entire method of education for infants and toddlers, as well as older children, based on movement. In her observations of children, she saw that they were always moving, always exploring with their hands, mouth, eyes and ears. Her conclusion was that movement is essential to children’s learning and development, and the hands are the pathway to their brain. In the Baby Monty’s classroom, the principles of learning through movement is applied, where children learn and develop coordinated movements and develop clear sensory impressions through simple hands-on activities.

For the very young, plenty of time is spent on the floor (tummy time) so the child can explore their environment and strengthen their body control and muscles.

Dr. Montessori observed how children develop and progress through sensitive periods that manifest as behavioural patterns. During these sensitive periods children appear to learn new skills with minimum effort and they tend to persevere with the task until they have mastered the skill.

Babies and toddlers are very sensitive to order. During the early years, children depend on external order to assist them in developing mental order. The nursery therefore strives to minimize any internal move or rearrangement of the classroom to ensure that the classroom environment is familiar and comforting. The nursery tries to keep daily activities such as snack, lunch and nap times consistent with the regime in place at the child’s home. During your baby’s induction, the teacher will discuss your baby’s daily routine at home to ensure that it is followed as closely as possible whilst at nursery. Daily updates are sent to parents via a software programme, ‘My Montessori Child’.

The infant and toddler years are exciting times. Our staff understand the compelling needs at each stage of development and we ensure the provision of the external environment and materials children need to develop and progress in order to reach their full potential.

The nursery is open from 7am to 5pm Sunday – Thursday with a variety of different options to suit parents’ different needs.

Tours of the nursery are offered every day from 9am– 11am, please call to make an appointment.

You can join the Children’s House Montessori at their Open Day on 29 April from 11am until 2pm to meet the team and see the facilities.
