Abu Dhabi named the Middle East’s Leading Sports Tourism Destination

The city also won three other tourism awards.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championships; the FINA World Swimming Championships; the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix; the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup; it’s fair to say Abu Dhabi is spoilt for choice when it comes to sporting events.

And the capital’s love and capabilities of putting on a fantastic sporting show has been recognised at the World Travel Awards.

Considered to be the highest accolades in the field of tourism, the city has been bestowed with the title of Middle East’s Leading Sports Tourism Destination 2021 having already hosted some notably sporting events this calendar year including UFC 267, the Abu Dhabi HBSC Championship and FIBA 3×3 World Tour Masters with more to come before the close of 2021.

But it wasn’t the only gongs that Abu Dhabi took home from the 28th edition of the awards.

The city also received the Middle East’s Leading Business Travel Destination 2021, Middle East’s Leading Marketing Campaign 2021 for ‘It’s Always Summer in Abu Dhabi’ and the Middle East’s Leading Wedding Destination 2021.

Speaking on the news, His Excellency Ali Hassan Al Shaiba, Executive Director of Tourism and Marketing at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Abu Dhabi is home to the most important international events and with its vast array of offerings, has focused on enriching the visitor’s experience even during the height of the pandemic.

“Under the strong leadership and guidance of DCT Abu Dhabi, the emirate continues to enhance its tourism offerings and consolidate its position on the global tourism map.”
