Preparing Your Child for Big School

Teddy Bear Nursery help the transition from nursery to big school

The staff at Teddy Bear Nurseries are all too aware of the importance of preparing children for the transition into “Big School”.

Moving from nursery to school is an important part of growing up and marks an important milestone for children and their families. This is an exciting time for everyone as they prepare for the changes ahead, including the chance to meet new friends and teachers, and to participate in new and different experiences.

Transition is a process, not just a one-time event, beginning in the home and throughout the nursery aged period. Studies have shown that children who have attended nursery will achieve a higher achievement score and are much more prepared for school as they are adjusted and well prepared for dealing with change in their environment.

It is the role of the nursery and its practitioners to help prepare children for this transition to ‘big school’ through constant support, encouragement and skill building.

Transition from nursery to school

With ten years of experience, Teddy Bear Nursery,  has established a trusted rapport with schools of all curriculum backgrounds demonstrating how well the nursery prepares children for ‘big’ school.

The Teddy Bear process starts early by establishing daily routines which will reflect similar routines in the school day.

Teddy Bear Nursery’s ethos is, if a child has had a gentle and positive start to nursery life, this will lead to a positive and confident child in later years.

Apart from their rich and varied curriculum, Teddy Bear Nursery feel teaching independence skills, such has feeding themselves, going to the bathroom, washing hands and taking care of their own personal needs are important life skills.

Making children aware of sharing and being kind to their friends will make them positive role models for their peers.

Closer to the transition time, Teddy Bear practitioners prepare special activities that will help children cope with this period of change. The teachers talk and read stories about starting school, making friends, new uniforms and their new teachers. Teddy Bear Nursery always invite and encourage teachers from various schools to come into the nursery environment and meet the children.

All this helps the children feel happy and confident.  So by the time your children leave the nursery setting, they are well prepared not just academically but have the social, emotional and personal skills that will see them not only adjust to big school with ease but will ensure they thrive in their new setting.
