Find out about the new vibrant cultural hub that promises to inspire excitement, exploration, participation, and creation, all whilst being a dedicated exhibition space that will highlight the works created by children as well as displays for younger audiences.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) have just announced that a library designed to completely cater to the city’s younger set will be opening in the heart of the city in March 2019. The creative and dynamic space plans to be the go-to place for interactive education for children of all ages and will be unique from more conventional institutions as it will be a true pioneering first of its kind in the GCC Region.

HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, shared that they “are extremely excited to create a new and vibrant space in Abu Dhabi that will impact the lives of children and their families. The Abu Dhabi Children’s Library will provide creative opportunities for digital engagement and emphasise the importance of the library as a rich and welcoming space for children within the local community.” Allowing them to “support the development of Arabic literacy and creative programmes that enhance learning outside the classroom.” They ultimately hope “to inspire a new generation of readers, starting them on a life-long journey of discovery.”

The 3-floored, 5,250 square metre facility will be divided into several immersive social spaces for a variety of age groups. The library will feature 3D learning and playing areas where children can physically escape into the literature as it will draw inspiration from pop-up books, whimsical, and colourful designs, ultimately creating both a truly inspiring and educational location for kids. Additionally, each floor will be uniquely designed, drawing inspiration from the rich and diverse landscapes of the UAE. The first floor will take you to the very foundations of the UAE – the desert, embracing themes of tranquillity, peace, and meditation. Sand dunes, camels and four-wheel vehicles will be making an appearance, where kids can fully immerse themselves into their environment. The second floor will present a falaj water channel that will be flowing with books so that children can get lost in their imaginations at the serene oasis.

Children will be able to broaden their minds and explore the different genres of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, autobiographies, and audio-books. Talking, performances, playing, and interacting will all be encouraged throughout the library, with multiple quiet zones also scattered around for those bookworms looking to submerge themselves into the story.

This dedication learning hub will also host a variety of compelling public activities, workshops, and reading classes with programmes on literature, art, film, and music taking place all year. Libraries offer a safe haven for family and friends, and The Abu Dhabi Children’s Library won’t be any different, it will be the core of inspiration built on the most historic site in Abu Dhabi, gifting future generations with a love of books and learning!
