The table-side service is an added bonus
It’s always a pleasure visiting Dusit Thani Abi Dhabi. And with every Friday now surrendering a rather delicious Pan Asian Night, the pleasure principle has certainly amplified tenfold.
So, what to expect on Pan Asian Night? Tasty Asian fare aplenty is a given for sure.
But the actual number of diverse offerings surpassed all expectations in the array of dishes on offer, the quality of the food, and certainly not least, the friendly and knowledgeable hosts.
Presided over by the affable Executive Chef of Dusit Thani, Fernando Galbiati, there are three packages from which to choose, which are AED 180* per person, including unlimited soft drinks (the one we chose); AED 320* per person, including unlimited house beverages; and for the little ones, AED 90* per child, also including unlimited soft beverages.
After we were shown to our table in Urban Kitchen, we then went for wander (from country to country, including China, Japan, India, Thailand, Maylasia) around the huge number of stations, some of which are live with chefs creating delicate Asian goodness in front of our very eyes.
Back at the table, we are delighted by the table-side service whereby the most delicious, and freshest, Thai Papaya Salad was created from scratched and served fresh to reveal a burst of colour and taste.
Next, the Compose Salad Station beckons where mini bowls – perfect for sharing – included Thai Beef Salad, Marinated Duck and Peanut Salad, Grilled Pineapple Asian Salad, Asian Slaw with Tuna Tataki, among many more.
The chefs heading the Laksa Soup Station tempted us to the spicy noodle dish popular in Southeast Asia.
With various types of noodles soaking up the liquid toppings, the toppings include a choice of chicken, prawn, fish and vegetables. The rich and spicy broth seasoned with sour asam was mighty filling but didn’t stop us heading to more stations.
Under the Lamp, the name of the station, served up fried goodness, including Fried Shrimp Wantons, Crispy Chicken Wings, Fish Balls Tempura and more. And of course, there’s no show at an Asian Night without prawn crackers, of which there were three types and a variety of dips. Highly addictive, do hold back so you can experience other stations and their offerings.
For those who love Dim Dum, chicken gyoza and Bao with bean was on offer, and a real treat, which were perfect before heading to the array of main courses that included Malaysian Chicken Curry, an assortment of stirred fried dishes, Pla Sam Ros – Benjarong, among more.
The mains looked tasty, but as we were a group, we stayed on the mission of sharing, which is at the core of Asian cuisine and allowed us to savour more dishes from across the continent.
Thinking of Asia, then Sushi just has to be there, and the Sushi and Sashimi Station delivered the wonderful flavours of Japan.
Team Yalla can eat Sushi for days and we were spoilt for choice with fresh salmon, fresh tuna, scallops, and king fish. The usual suspects were there in, as you’d expect, perfect bite size rolls of California Maki, Spicy Salmon and Tuna Maki, Prawn Tempura, Spider roll, Dragon roll and more.
Japanese salads only added to the greatness, and included Ohitashi consisting of steamed spinach with soy and furikake dressing; Sauteed Mushrooms in miso-mirin dressing; and Steamed Green Beans, all of which went down a treat.
Is there room for desserts? Not really but we simply had to savour just some from a selection of at least 16 sweet delights on display.
We tucked into Sago Mango Pudding and Yam Mousse cake, which were deliciously Asian. A few others on display, to tempt you, were Green Tea Swiss Roll, Rice Layer Cake, Sasame Balls and a host of others.
