PARTNER CONTENT: Gliding effortlessly to the 74th floor where the lift comes to a halt and the doors slide open to reveal the most magnificent view of Abu Dhabi. You have arrived at Observation Deck at 300 perched high in the swirling mist atop the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers.
For fashionistas worth their Dior handbag, it makes for the perfect entrance to strike a pose before the immaculately dressed host leads you to your table to indulge in the hotel’s latest afternoon delight.
Fashion Afternoon Tea is Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers’ latest collection of haute couture, and promises to turn heads.
We are not talking custom-fitted clothing from the fashion houses of Europe, but rather a cleverly designed offering of beautifully presented savoury snacks and sweet delights that would look equally at home under the spotlights of the world’s fashion Runways.
From cakes and fancies worked into the shape of high-fashion accessories such as handbags and stilettoes to legs kicking out from under a tutu to an edible lipstick no less, the afternoon offering is served on an impressive three-tier gilded bird cage.
Starting on the lower tier is Smoked Turkey with Spiced Strawberry Relish, Brie Cheese with Black Truffle and our favourite, the Slow Roasted Wagyu Beef with Horseradish Sauce and Wild Arugula among other tantalising savoury treats.
From here upwards, it gets decidedly sweet with Chocolate Cherry Marquise, Red Fruit Sphere Compote, Velvet Cake, Pistachio and Apricot Cheese Frosting, Flakey Brioche, Layered Short Cake and a threaded Sugar, Vanilla Trifle.
It is enough to give you a sugar rush for weeks but wait, there is more. Laid out on the table is a selection of fine Madeleines, English Fruit and Plain Scones Plain Scones served with the customary Strawberry Jam, Lemon Curd and Clotted Cream – after all, would it even be an afternoon tea without these usual suspects rearing their much-welcomed head?
And for those wishing to take it to the next level, that English favourite of juniper mix is served from a teapot! How quintessential!
