A one-off menu created for the night at Catch at St Regis’ talented Chef Remon Nabil.
REVIEW: If you are looking for the perfect place to dine but with a difference this New Year’s Eve, then Team Yalla highly recommends Catch at St. Regis.
Located within the premises of the Nation Riviera Beach Club at The St. Regis Abu Dhabi hotel, this popular, award-winning restaurant is an absolute crowd pleaser with its creative, modern seafood cuisine, which certainly delighted Team Yalla on our recent visit.
We were invited to sample the restaurant’s New Year’s Eve menu, a one-off created for the night by Catch’s wonderfully talented chef, Remon Nabil, who has harnessed his culinary skills to curate a six-course treat.
With the mild weather, we chose to sit outside on the restaurant’s terrace, which surrendered unadulterated views over a lawned terrace to the sea and the Marina Village skyline.
It’s a lovely setting with a calm ambience and listening to the trickling of a water feature, you almost feel as though you’re dining in the gardens of a private villa.
The architecture of the restaurant is pretty too – beach side pavilion-esque. The restaurant is also offering a magical New Year’s Eve Igloo Experience where guests, in groups of up to four or six, can dine inside their own clear domed igloo on the Corniche beach allowing them to take in the ink-blue Arabian night by the sea as they party the new year in.
The six-course sharing style menu is an absolute delight; the chef and his team have sourced the best-in-class ingredients from around the world including Krystal caviar, blue prawn and Icelandic toothfish, the latter being sublime and offering clean, sweet tasting snow-white flakes – one of the best fish dishes we had ever tasted.
The blue prawn was served with a crab and avocado terrine and meticulously adorned with melon and radish slices to resemble scallops, offering a lovely texture play.
The crab was delicate and meaty and the dish contained subtle Japanese influences with citrus and herb overtones.
Another Team Yalla favourite, and guest favourite as our charming and knowledgeable waiters informed us, was the blow torch tuna salmon deep fried sushi. This was fabulous and came as part of the sushi and shashimi platter, one of the most Instagram friendly dishes we have seen – an ice wheel adorned with red peppers sitting on crushed ice all underlit with blue light. A beautiful bit of culinary theatre.
The menu is difficult to highlight in a brief review, such is its complexity and depth but wagyu beef, scallops with foie gras and indulgent desserts of chocolate cherry forest and yuzu passion volcano followed!
The New Year’s Eve menu offers a truly exquisite dining experience and will be even more magical combined with the intimate dining experience in a private igloo or unique dug outs. The outstanding menu on offer is further complemented with a beautiful view that will give guests a ring side seat at the Corniche fireworks display.
And don’t forget Catch’s Christmas Day Brunch too, which going by the New Year’s Eve offering, will be as equally special too.
There are three packages on offer depending on beverage options. A five-star Christmas brunch with some of the best views Abu Dhabi has to offer. It doesn’t get much better than that, does it?
