Qasr Al Muwaiji

Qasr Al Muwaiji was home to generations of the Al Nahyan family, and saw the birth of Sheikh Khalifa in 1948. The UNESCO World Heritage Site functioned not only as a home and an oasis in the desert but also as a place of rule and a focus for the community. The architectural gem now offers its visitors a variety of historical and traditional experiences associated with the venue, including oral narrations of the significant moments of Sheikh Khalifa’s life from his early childhood, leadership and vast national achievements.

Al Barzah Programme at Qasr Al Muwaiji

Qasr Al Muwaiji invites you to experience its Al Barzah Programme, a unique event combining tradition and modernity where participants discover more about the role of Al Barzah in the history and heritage of the United Arab Emirates, at the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

Symbolizing the values of fraternity and cooperation in Emirati society, Al Barzah is a Majlis that is run by elders, chieftains, and Sheikhs and used to be regarded as the community’s governing council where demands are met and disputes are resolved.

Seating areas in the courtyard of Qasr Al Muwaiji allow participants to relax and to spend quality time with family and friends in the spacious interior of the palace in the heart of Al Ain.

Emirati Dagger Programme

Jan 11 – Mar 27, 2020

The ‘Emirati Dagger Programme’ allows visitors to learn the secrets of making a dagger, the equipment and materials used and the correct way to wear it. Participants will also become acquainted with the inscriptions and special decorations of the daggers of the ruling families of the UAE.

The dagger is an integral part of Emirati tradition and culture and was always worn by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founding father of the UAE. In the olden days, carrying a dagger was not only used as means of self-protection, but also as a symbol associated with noble values, notable strength, dignity, courage, honour, nobility and pride.

The recently restored property also provides the public with an insight into the chronology of the members of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family associated with Qasr Al Muwaiji and progression of the Al Nahyan Family. The museum also features interactive activities and performances that celebrate the overall spirit of the significant cultural site.
