“Visual jazz” paintings with local flavour created by Elwin Buchel, M.D. will be on display in the lobby of the Sofitel Abu Dhabi from 26 September to 8 November. These paintings are virtually guaranteed to brighten up your day and make excellent additions to your new home’s bare white walls.
Entitled “Happiness,” the series of paintings represents the 27th exhibition for Abu Dhabi-based Buchel. Reminiscent of Matisse’s linework and Basquiat’s neo-expressionism and described as “visual jazz,” Buchel’s artworks are a moving onslaught of color and evoke life in Abu Dhabi and the joy that this city brings him.
On painting on and in Abu Dhabi, Buchel said: “one’s environment and the people one spends time with definitely shape one’s attitudes. Our life here has been happy and peaceful, yet work is always busy. At the same time, I’m constantly inspired by the vibrant local milieus and the focus on family, community, and togetherness. Accordingly, my paintings are happy and peaceful, but they’re also full and busy, and very colourful.”
The Happiness exhibition commences with a gala on 26 September from 7-10 pm at the Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche. The event is free and open to the public.
