Palestinian folk songs determine and reflect an important dimension of the Palestinian heritage that demonstrate the elements and pillars of its national identity. In fact, the most significant characteristic of Palestinian folk songs is their deep connection with the traditions and customs of the Palestinian people. The Palestinian folk song is popular in its form and content, and in its theme and subject, as it sprang from deep within the people’s hearts.
For her concert at Bait Al Oud, Nansi Khalaf Zakak tries to clarify and elaborate on the different forms and various characteristics that shaped the Palestinian folk song. Nansi presents an anthology of folk songs that were collected and documented through a field survey that was conducted during her recent visits to Palestine. She also recorded and analysed a collection of these endeared songs.
