Fans of alternative films, this is for you!

Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of indie films with the fifth edition of Manarat Al Saadiyat’s CineMAS: The alternative film festival.

This year’s edition features top indie filmmakers, including a programme dedicated to some of the best talents in Arab cinema.

The lineup of regional and international films explore the themes of neighbourhoods, preservation, family, science and spirituality. Plus, get amazing insights and experiences packed into every screening, and you’ll even get a chance to join talks with the talented directors.

Curated by artist, film curator and writer Hind Mezaina, the programme’s opening film on Monday, 29 May, will present Erige Sehiri’s Under the Fig Trees, a Tunisian coming-of-age tale that tells the story of young women working the summer harvest, where under the gaze of older workers and men, they flirt, tease and argue. Throughout the day, the orchard becomes a theatre of emotions, where everyone’s dreams and hopes are played out.

The festival will hold daily screenings until 4 June. There is also a special programme of short films by filmmakers from the Gulf region, and short films made in the UAE exploring themes related to various stages of family relations on 3 June.
