There’s a massive fishing festival happening in the UAE

It’s the ninth edition and you can win prizes.

The ninth Al Maleh and Fishing Festival is set to cast its line on Thursday 8 September. The four-day event will take place at Dibba Al Hisn City in Sharjah.

Organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in collaboration with the Dibba Al Hisn Municipality and Municipal Council, the four-day event will include, for the first time, dialogue sessions attended by a group of researchers with expertise in maritime heritage, who will talk about a variety of issues and topics related to marine industries, navigational crafts and traditional fishing tools.

The festival will highlight the latest developments in Al Maleh industry, while giving the exhibiting companies and entities an ideal opportunity to share their knowledge, insight, and suggestions for advancing traditional, heritage-based industries.

Through a series of workshops and fascinating activities, visitors will be introduced to the basics of making Al Maleh, including how to salt and pack it.

Folkloric performances and shows by a number of popular bands will also be part of the festival, as well as cooking competitions, contests and questions directed at the public, with valuable prizes being announced through the daily raffle.
