Bollywood Superstars: A Short Story of Indian Cinema is all set to take over Louvre Abu Dhabi. Featuring extracts from numerous films and artworks, the exhibition looks into the diverse origins of Indian cinema.
From content of the 19th century such as traditional shadow theatre and early silent movies to modern works of art, the exhibition presents the richness of the Indian traditions with the help of storytelling, dance, and theatre, and its close relationship with mythology and religion.
The exhibition includes a wide array of experiences such as early storyteller’s props, shadow puppets, Mughal armours, mythological, and religious lithographs.
Indian cinema is one of the world’s largest which made its place globally in less than a century. Releasing more than 1,500 films each year in almost 20 languages, it reflects the subcontinent’s diversity and acts as a public forum where contemporary social and cultural debates are played out.
