LEARNING RESOURCES

ALEF Education is the nation’s leading digital learning purveyor. Though their services have only been available to educational institutions previously, in light of the situation, they’ve recently added some free games and courses for home-based learning. ALEF’s model is a rising star to watch, so catch it early and avail yourselves of its complimentary services while you can! Learning4all_alefed.com

 

Khan Academy: The online learning company is a one-stop shop for short videos and other resources on thousands of topics and school subjects for all grades and college levels, including SAT prep and AP coursework. Khanacademy.org

 

Kids Online. America’s public broadcasting network PBS has a broadcasting division for children has educational games and videos for the younger set. Pbskids.org

Common Sense Media: The US-based service teaches digital literacy to kids and families, gives guidance on what to watch or read, online resources for learning at home, insight on viruses to help kids process what’s happening, and offers stress-relieving activities. Commonsensemedia.org

ARTS ACCESS

Visit the Louvre. The Louvre is not only one of the world’s largest art museums, but it’s also one of Paris’s most iconic historic monuments. The museum offers free online tours of some of its most important and popular exhibits, such as its Egyptian Antiquities and works from Michelangelo. You can take a 360-degree look at the museum, and click around the rare artifacts to get additional information on their histories. Take a tour here.

 

See Antiquities. With a collection that totals more than 8 million objects, London’s British Museum makes some of its pieces viewable online. The museum also teamed up with the Google Cultural Institute to offer virtual tours using Google Street View technology. Take your tour here.

Art Online. To help its users discover and view important artworks online in high resolution and detail, Google partnered with more than 1200 cultural institutions from around the world to archive and document priceless pieces of art and to provide virtual tours of museums using Google Street View technology. The Google Art Project features fine art from the White House, the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, and even São Paulo street art from Brazil.

COOKING LESSONS

MUSIC

See Broadway Hits. For a limited time, you can stream your favourite Broadway from the comfort of your couch without the queues, costs, and crowds! Some shows on offer include classics such as Cats, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. Learn more here.

Listen to Music. As concert halls continue to close due to coronavirus, live streaming of performances will provide welcome access for music lovers worldwide. The Maestro and his Budapest Festival Orchestra launched “Quarantine Soirees” on 16 March 2020 and the chamber music concerts will continue nightly online at 7:45 pm (Central European time). Rock & Roll. A Cleveland-based museum, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is providing access to a range of content for all grades focused on social studies, music, science and more. Topics include range from music and US history to the role of the drummer in a band. Edu.rockhall.com

SCIENCE

Explore & Learn. The San Francisco hands-on science museum Exploratorium offers an array of science activities, including a collection of articles, activities and videos on viruses. Exploratorium.edu/learn

Space Travel. NASA offers free virtual tours of the Langley Research Center in Virginia, as well as of Ohio’s Glenn Research Center. The Space Center Houston also has an app that provides virtual tours, augmented reality experiences, and videos and audio stories about space exploration. NATIONAL PARKS

Tour America’s National Parks Virtually. America’s national parks are a treasure and while nothing replaces visiting them, touring a few virtually is now an option! Check some out and start planning your dream trips here!
