Al Mamoura Academy broadens its curriculum offering from Year 10

A number of pathways around the UK curriculum alongside the US curriculum to provide students with further opportunities

Al Mamoura Academy opened its doors in 2016 as a coeducation primary school and all girl’s secondary school. It’s development was based on Al Mushrif primary school and has now opened its doors to more than 1,200 students and is continuing to grow.

Recently, the academy has decided to broaden its curriculum offering from Year 10 onwards to support a wider range of opportunities. Mrs. Sarah Weaver, principal of Al Mamoura Academy, explains.

Currently we offer the English National Curriculum from FS1 through to Year 12. GCSE and A Level options are provided for students in Year 10 and 12 to ensure they fulfil not only the national curriculum, but also the Ministry of Education curriculum and equivalency.

Throughout this curriculum we promote a holistic education, offering a wide range of subject areas, and learning is underpinned by our own DNA Framework. This has been developed for both staff and students to have a learning framework focused on developing resilient and independent students. Alongside this we offer a leadership programme for students to support the development of key skills.

Finally, we have just developed two significant partnerships with Sunderland and Bristol University (UK) to offer a Teacher Training Programme and to support the development of Educational Research. This is a fantastic opportunity for the school and staff.

We have now decided to broaden our curriculum offering from Year 10 onwards to support a wider range of opportunities. Our aim will be to offer a number of pathways around the UK curriculum alongside the US curriculum. This will provide students with further opportunities to be successful as well providing them with a greater understanding of key curriculum areas.

A full consultation process has taken place to ensure that the wider community are part of these developmental processes and in line with this, a recruitment drive will take place to ensure that the best possible staff are appointed to support this key development.

The pathways will be offered to all students across Abu Dhabi, providing a curriculum that is bespoke and will support a variety of curriculum offerings. We envisage that these pathways can be integrated together successfully to provide a robust and rigorous curriculum that provides outstanding outcomes for all students.Yalla recently launched its weekly Teacher Talk series where we get to turn the tables on teachers and ask the questions.
