The new award meaning “treasure” has been unveiled in celebration of Eid Al Etihad

 

The NYU Abu Dhabi Institute has launched the ‘Dhikhr Award,’ recognising individuals who have made exceptional contributions to preserving and advancing the understanding of the UAE’s history and culture.

Introduced in celebration of Eid Al Etihad, the Dhikhr (meaning “treasure” in Arabic) Award honours efforts that have enriched the UAE’s cultural and historical narrative, inspired by the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

This year’s honourees, Frauke Heard-Bey and the late David Heard, were recognized for their scholarship and dedication, which have profoundly shaped understanding of the UAE’s history and transformation.

Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh also reflected on their enduring contributions during a commemorative discussion.

Since its founding in 2008, The NYUAD Institute has served as a hub for intellectual exploration, hosting over 1500 academic conferences, lectures, and public events, and welcoming more than 1000 speakers worldwide.

The launch of the Dhikhr Award reinforces its mission to advance research and creative activity that deepen understanding of the UAE’s unique heritage while fostering global scholarly dialogue.

Marking 15 years of impact, The Institute continues to be a platform for innovation and knowledge exchange, contributing significantly to Abu Dhabi’s and the UAE’s intellectual and cultural landscape.
