W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island sent over their turkey takeaway for Team Yalla to relish, and the feeling of being stuffed was unanimous!
If you’d like to cut back on Christmas leftovers, but you can’t just quit cold turkey (pun intended); what’s left of this meal will definitely have you inching back for more.
For a day that started like any other, things took a surprisingly festive turn thanks to W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island. Fifteen minutes of running, huffing, and puffing later, the Team Yalla men returned to the office with two large boxes in tow.
If the delicious smells wafting from the boxes weren’t an indication already, the bold W2GO emblazoned on it definitely was. Before we knew it, a regular afternoon transformed into something straight out of British Thanksgiving Pinterest pages. What made it 10 times better was how easily we found ourselves in front of a picturesque feast.
Sat smack in the middle of the table was a beautifully cooked golden brown turkey. Despite what we assumed was a long trip from the hotel to our bellies, it was still sinfully juicy and delightfully warm as we tucked in. But that was just the beginning of a gluttonous affair.
The turkey came accompanied by well-packaged and extremely well-seasoned traditional sides. And when W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island said infinite sides, they certainly meant it. From Chestnuts and Stuffing to Roasted Root Vegetables, Duck Fat Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts, it was everything you would expect from a festive spread and more.
Colours, textures, and impressive flavours aside, it’s the little things that will catch your eye. The bacon bits and almond slivers in the Brussels Sprouts, the root vegetables cooked to perfection, and the potatoes, that somehow seemed to retain both tenderness and bite. With a well-balanced Cranberry Sauce and Turkey Gravy that you may go to war for, each bite is a chance to experiment.
Once our waistbands seemed just a little too tight for comfort, we knew it was time to retire. But then, of course, the decadent-looking Pumpkin Pie caught our eye. And it’s only polite to eat up every last little crumb of so fantastic a dessert. The aroma of cinnamon combined with the creaminess of a pie that managed to retain its airiness yielded as gratifying an experience as any other.
As if we contemplated rolling back to our seats in lieu of walking, there was something that stayed. And no, I’m not talking about the calories. It was the warm feeling of having consumed not just a hearty meal, but also to have shared it with colleagues both old and new. It was a chance to bond, a chance to reflect, and a delicious chance to alter a normal Tuesday. It was an experience, to say the least, and definitely the kind that would brighten up your festive season.
