Explore the best of UAE culture with Warehouse421’s Summer 2022 programme

The culture bus will be also exploring Dubai’s and Sharjah’s stunning cultural attractions.

School’s out and culture is in as Warehouse421 has announced a summer 2022 programme chock-a-block full of talks, workshops and screenings.

The home-grown arts centre based in Mina Zayed will see the launch of summer club on July 25 for kids and adults, free online and in-space talks, a film screening to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day and the continuation of the culture bus taking culture vultures to the superb cultural destinations of the UAE.

There will even be a chance to admire the exhibition, The Weft in the Pencil by Jill Magi as well as the NYUAD MFA Exhibition showcasing projects and artworks of first-year MFA students at NYUAD inaugural class of 2023.

Speaking on the announcement, Faisal Al Hassan, Head of Warehouse421 said; “We have a rich programme this summer for adults and children. We wanted to focus more on the art scene in the UAE, so we were keen to put together a fun program for the cultural bus.

“We have also organised many workshops targeting children and adolescents to introduce them to the arts in the UAE and help them explore their abilities.

The summer club will encourage kids to take an artistic dive with the Oceanic Discovery programme with Makerspace, building puppets, designing lights, and painting tote bags.

However, should clay be their way, little ones and adolescents can showcase their pottery skills by working on the pottery wheel, painting on bisque, and making dolls.

There will also be a chance for Early Starters to go on a cultural exploration of Egypt, India and the Levant.

And while the kids are letting their creative juices flow, mum and dad can get let their artistic sides out with five single day workshops that include learning how to crochet, make wearable wire art or clay jewelry, designing a tablescape of wonder, and delving into the microcosm of pickling and fermentation.

Talks will feature three participating artists from the NYUAD MFA exhibition, Mo Reda on A Reflection on The Outreach and Afikra Salon leading a semi-monthly salon-style event where members of the community present on cultural and historical topics they are curious about.

In celebration of Emirati Women’s Day, Warehouse421 will host a special screening of six outstanding Emirati female directors, who graduated from the Arab Film Studio Narrative and Documentary programmes, followed by a panel discussion with two directors and an experienced Emirati filmmaker.

The film screening will showcase Omnia by Amna Al Nowais; Why Is My Grandfather’s Bed in Our Living Room? By Sarah Al Hashimi; Osha’s Gift by Hind Abdullah; Mum by Mariam Al Awadhi; and Thoub by Raihana Al Hashmi.

Finally, the Warehouse421 culture bus itinerary for the summer will include trips to Jameel Arts Centre, Maraya Art Center, Bayt Al Mamzar, Alserkal Avenue, Museum of the Future and Sharjah Arts Foundation.
