Prepare to be captivated by a groundbreaking reimagining of Rudyard Kipling’s beloved Jungle Book in a new and compelling form by the world-renowned Akram Khan Company.
This stunning dance-theatre production will take the stage at the Cultural Foundation on 4 and 5 April 2025, offering a daring and visionary adaptation that blends stunning choreography, state-of-the-art visuals, and an urgent message about the climate crisis.
The story
Jungle Book Reimagined transports Mowgli’s iconic journey into a near-future world where climate refugees seek solace in a desolate, war-torn city.
Stripped of their homeland by the devastating effects of climate change, a young child stumbles upon a strange new jungle; one inhabited not by wild animals, but by a city overrun by nature’s reclaiming forces.
The heart of this retelling lies in Mowgli’s search for belonging in a world in crisis, drawing a powerful parallel to the climate refugee experience.
The production
Akram Khan, internationally celebrated for his unique fusion of Kathak and contemporary dance, reinvents the classic tale with an original score.
This is brought to life by renowned composer Jocelyn Pook, along with a stunning visual stage design from Miriam Buether and YeastCulture’s innovative video design and animation.
Featuring ten exceptional international dancers, Jungle Book Reimagined explores themes of connection to nature, survival, and the human spirit, delivered through Khan’s signature choreography that promises to leave audiences breathless and inspired.
The production’s powerful visuals, inspired by contemporary myths and the urgent reality of our changing world, combine seamlessly with the dramatic movement of the dancers.
It’s an unforgettable spectacle that speaks to our intrinsic need to bond with others and emphasizes the importance of respecting our environment. The work is both timely and vital, as it calls attention to the immediate challenges our planet faces.
