Dates, timings and all you need to know about watching the Flower Moon in the UAE this week

Are you ready to witness the most beautiful full moon of the year? Mark 22 May on your calendars and look at the skies to spot the super gorgeous Flower Moon!

Visible across the UAE, the moon will get increasingly brighter until then, peaking on the evening of 22 May until 2am early into 23 May.

The bright lunar phenomenon is aptly titled as the ‘Flower Moon’, with some speculating its etymology to coincide with the season when blooms would appear.

Other names include the Planting Moon, and the Milk Moon, while some have also called it the Hare Moon. While the difference in size and brightness compared to a regular full moon might be subtle, experts say the Flower Moon will still be a magnificent sight due to its position in the constellation Leo and its path across the night sky.

Traditionally, all full moons have specific names originating from Native American sources, like Wolf, Beaver Sturgeon or Buck moon.

In Dubai, due to the exceptional brightness of the Flower Moon, residents of the country will be able to observe it without the need for telescopes or binoculars.

While the full moon will be bright enough to be seen all over the UAE, Abu Dhabi will soon be an even better spot for stargazing thanks to its newly announced Dark Sky policy, which aims to reduce light pollution at night, caused by both private and public buildings.

That aside, here are some brilliant spots to go stargazing or camping!
