Sea turtle rehabilitation sanctuary launched at Louvre Abu Dhabi

MoU signed between DCT – Abu Dhabi and Environment Agency Abu Dhabi.

The Department of Culture & Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a sea turtle rehabilitation sanctuary at Louvre Abu Dhabi today.

The release of the turtles comes as a last step in the rehabilitation programme of the sea creatures as part of EAD’s Wildlife Rescue Program with the National Aquarium.

The MoU was signed by the Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry and the Secretary General of EAD, Her Excellency Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri.

Under the supervision of EAD, the National Aquarium will ensure that the programme runs at the highest possible standard.

Soon, the sanctuary will be accessible to visitors of Louvre Abu Dhabi who wish to know more about the programme.

The release of the sea turtles comes as a measure to contribute to Abu Dhabi’s environment conservation efforts and sustainable living.

The National Aquarium, following the guidelines set out by EAD, hopes that the turtles will be ready to brace the big waters by April 2023.
