New races added for Dubai World Cup Carnival

Horse racing’s richest day has increased the pot.

Dubai Racing Club has announced the racing calendar for the 2022 season and there are some super additions that will have horse racing fans jumping with excitement.

Beginning on 13 January 2022, the season will now include a four-race ‘Jumeirah Series’ on turf as well as a new race, the Ras Al Kor, on Super Saturday (5 March) where the winner will take home US$300,000.

The addition of the new races increases the total prizemoney for the racing season to more than $40 million.

Speaking on the announcement, Chairman of Dubai Racing Club, Sheikh Rashid bin Dalmook said the new races would improve Dubai’s equestrian offering.

Sheikh Rashid bin Dalmook said: “The introduction of new races within the framework of the Dubai World Cup Carnival is part of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s efforts to continually improve Dubai’s equestrian offering and also to support racing both within the UAE and overseas.”

“1,400 metres or seven Furlongs is one of the most popular distances in thoroughbred racing, yet it has very few high valued feature events run over the trip. We believe the Ras Al Khor will eventually become a global fixture that will be promoted to our Dubai World Cup meeting.”

Meanwhile the richest day in horse racing, Saturday 26 March, has just got a little richer with prize money for the day’s action being increased to an eye-watering $30.5 million.

All races on the day will be run for at least $1million.
