Residents are encouraged to drop their recyclable waste at the recycling centres
A new initiative supports Abu Dhabi’s big push towards becoming the first zero-waste emirate in the UAE and one of the cleanest and most sustainable cities in the world, and it’s happening somewhere near you.
Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) has deployed 20 new Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) across the emirate where you are free to dispose of recyclables such as textiles, electronic waste, expired medicines, hazardous household waste and more.
With the larger and more targeted CRCs, Abu Dhabi is making a strong statement on the importance of community involvement in promoting recycling and sustainability in the emirate.
“Our goal is to make Abu Dhabi and Al Ain two of the cleanest and most sustainable cities in the world, and we believe that this new initiative is a step in the right direction,” said Nat Bryant, COO of Tadweer.

Taadweer has also rolled out new larger-capacity colour-coded recycling containers in various locations around the city.
The green recycling containers are for recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, pet bottles, aluminium cans and glass, while the black waste containers are for single-use plastic products such as straws and plastic bags, food waste, etc.
And if you’re disposing of broken glass or any sharp materials, please safely pack them before dropping them into the black bins.
There will be separate vehicles to collect the green and black receptacles to ensure proper sorting of waste, which will be sent to Tadweer’s recycling facility for further segregation, treatment and processing.
The new initiative is in line with the UAE’s move making 2023 the Year of Sustainability, as announced by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
