NCM issues orange alert in Abu Dhabi: Watch out for rain, winds and dusty conditions

Rains reported in parts of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah

Did it rain in your area this morning?

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported scattered rains in different areas of Abu Dhabi Monday morning, 22 May, including Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Bateen Airport.

The NCM issued orange and yellow alerts for parts of Abu Dhabi, warning residents of possible weather disturbances, including rainfall and winds of up to 40 km/hr.

With patchy outdoor conditions, time to head indoors for some fun and Abu Dhabi certainly has plenty, including the city’s latest attraction, SeaWorld Yas Island, which opens to the public on Tuesday.

An orange alert, which has been raised in some areas including Dalma island, warns of “hazardous weather events” and urges residents to comply with advice from authorities. A yellow alert means residents should be on the lookout when going for outdoor activities.

The NCM also reported rains in parts of Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah on Monday.

“(There is) a chance of convective cloud formation associated with rainfall and fresh winds with a speed of 40 km/hr over some southern and western areas from 2am until 2pm Monday,” the NCM said in a weather alert.

The NCM expects partly cloudy and dusty conditions with a chance of convective cloud formation associated with rainfall over some eastern, internal and western areas. Residents need to watch out for light to moderate winds blowing dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility.

“The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea, becoming rough at times in cloud activity,” the NCM said in a weather forecast for this week.

The partly cloudy conditions and scattered rains could continue until Tuesday, 23 May, while windy conditions can be seen throughout the week.
