Four-time Grand Slam winner announced for Mubadala World Tennis Championship

The championship takes place in December.

Another day and another piece of exciting news being served by Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.

World number 12, Dominic Thiem is set to make his competitive return to the tennis court in December.

 

 

Announced today (2 November), the four-time Grand Slam winner is the fifth top-class player to be confirmed for the Arabian Gulf’s leading professional experience at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City.

Speaking on the announcement, the Austrian star said the tournament is the perfect launchpad for 2022.

He said: “I was keen to find the right opportunity to make my return to the court and the Mubadala World Tennis Championship comes at a great time.

“The Championship offers the perfect environment to continue my comeback and play against the top guys on tour.”

CEO of Flash Entertainment (organisers of the championship), John Lickrish said it was another great signature for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, enhancing the competition’s reputation even further.

He said: “Everyone knows how good a player Dominic Thiem is, especially our loyal, knowledgeable Championship fans. We are thrilled that he has decided to choose our Championship to make his return to tennis.

“Once again it demonstrates the appeal of playing in Abu Dhabi at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship as a great opportunity for the world’s best to benefit from top-class competitive action ahead of the new season.”

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship will be taking place in the capital from 16 to 18 December with US Open ladies’ champion Emma Raducanu, Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic, world number 8 Casper Ruud and world 19 Denis Shapovalov all pencilled in for tournament.

Tickets for the event are already available Ticketmaster UAE and in Virgin Megastores across the UAE from AED 50.

The championship will be at full capacity for the three days after Government restrictions on sporting attendances for December were relaxed.

And aside from some top-class tennis action, families can enjoy a festival atmosphere and explore the Tennis Village.

To gain entry to the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, fans must present a green status on their Al Hosn app alongside a negative PCR test result with a 96-hour validity for the three days.
