First phase of facial biometrics deployed at Abu Dhabi International Airport

You are not going to need a boarding pass soon!

The future of travelling is here! An Abu Dhabi-based technology company, NEXT50, delivered the first phase of the biometric initiative at capital’s airport where people do not need to show anything to pass the immigration gates – except their very own, beautiful face.

Say what? You heard it! You can soon use your face as a replacement to your boarding pass, or any other document that you may need to get on a flight from Abu Dhabi International Airport. The biometric project will initially see the deployment of next generation biometric solutions at select self-service baggage touchpoints, immigration e-gates, and boarding gates before implementing the technology across all passenger touchpoints in the airport.

“The phase one deployment of advanced biometrics at Abu Dhabi International Airport further cements our commitment to shape the future of airport experiences,” says Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, MD and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports.

Once the project is completed, passengers will get to experience a convenient, simplified, contactless and hygienic experience from “curb-to-gate”. This will result in reduced wait times and less time queuing for passengers.

Hi-tech biometric cameras will be used to verify passenger details along several touchpoints in the airport, which includes the self-service baggage drop, passport control, business class lounge, and boarding gates.

“Once the project is fully realised, the airport will be the only one in the region with biometric solutions implemented across all customer touchpoints, contributing to Abu Dhabi Airport’s vision to become the most technology-driven airport in the world,” concluded Ibrahim Al Mannaee, NEXT50’S Chief Executive Officer.
