4 ways you can help those in Turkey and Syria suffering from the affects of the devastating earthquakes

Team Yalla has compiled a list of verified channels in the UAE for you to donate through.

The devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on 6 February has left many dead and displaced. Thousands are still trapped under the rubble and adverse weather conditions are also hampering relief efforts on the ground.

The UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has offered condolences to the victims of the earthquake. He has also ordered a $100 million aid package to be distributed equally to Turkey and Syria. Rescue and medical teams were also sent to the two countries on behalf of the UAE.

While rescue efforts are underway in disaster-stricken areas, you too can help with donations for those affected by the earthquake. Team Yalla has compiled a list of verified channels through which you can send your contributions.

Emirates Red Crescent

Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has called for participation in the Bridges of Good campaign to collect and assemble relief supplies for earthquake-stricken Turkey and Syria. The appeal is part of the UAE’s efforts to assist those affected by the massive disaster in the two countries by providing emergency humanitarian aid.

Emirates Red Crescent is calling out for help to pack relief supplies at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City Dubai from 9am to 2 pm on 11 February.

Starting 12 February, ERC and participating UAE humanitarian and charitable organisations will spend two weeks directly collecting cash donations. Anyone who would like to help can sign up via  Volunteers

Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Abu Dhabi

You can send your donations through the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Abu Dhabi as well. The consulate tweeted that it’s collecting cash for people affected by the earthquake in Turkey.

The consulate has asked volunteers to donate through the Turkish Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, Turkish Red Crescent and Turkiye Diyanet Foundation. Contributions made to these vetted channels will help provide food and shelter to people affected by the earthquakes.

Karam Foundation

Karam Foundation’s Karam House – a community centre that houses the underprivileged on the Turkey-Syria border – has been affected by the deadly earthquake as well. While the centre is still helping to provide a shelter to those in need, it’s quickly running out of resources. You can donate to Karam Foundation to help provide shelter, basic services and disaster relief to those affected by the disaster.

With resources scarce and many people still trapped under concrete, aid workers on the ground fear the freezing temperatures could be deadly for those who miraculously survived. To donate, visit UNICEF
