Cyclone warning for UAE, Al Ain to be worst effected

NCM warns people to stay away from beaches.

A cyclone is expected to hit the UAE around noon today (Sunday), according to the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) who held a briefing on Saturday evening.

Al Ain, along with Fujairah, are expected to be worst hit. Schools in some parts of the UAE will move lessons online until it is safe to return to school.

The tropical storm, named Shaheen, will bring significant rainfall and the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) is urging people to stay away from beaches where water is expected to rise.

Strong winds are expected, whipping up sand, and in Oman, which will bare the brunt of the storm, a national two-day holiday has been declared.

Shaheen is expected to leave the country by Monday.
