Motorists, be warned and avoid an AED 1000 fine

Driving in Abu Dhabi? From speed limits to road maintenance, there are a lot of measures taken by the Abu Dhabi Police to keep the roads safe for motorists and pedestrians alike.

And now, the UAE capital is coming down hard on sudden swerving on the roads, a behaviour known for causing severe traffic accidents.

In collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Centre, the Abu Dhabi Police also released a video showcasing an accident triggered by a sudden lane change as part of the “Your Comment” initiative.

Emphasising the seriousness of the issue, some strict fines will be enforced. According to Article No. 86 of the amended executive regulations of Traffic Law No. 178, light vehicles failing to adhere to the mandatory lane will be fined AED 400.

Article 29 stipulates a hefty penalty for sudden vehicle swerving, which would mean an AED 1000 fine as well as four black points.

Essentially, sudden deviations and improper overtaking will be punished severely, and the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols urged drivers to exercise caution and avoid hasty manoeuvres.

Motorists are advised to ensure the road is clear before changing lanes or overtaking to avoid reckless lane changes and to stick to the mandatory lane in situations requiring adherence to a specific route.

Drive safe!
