Renowned educator to lead prestigious school into a new era of excellence
Brighton College Abu Dhabi announces the appointment of Mr Barney Durrant as the new Headmaster, starting April 2025.
Mr Durrant comes to Brighton College Abu Dhabi after a successful tenure as Head of St Lawrence College, UK, where he served for four years.
His extensive experience includes eight years at Harrow International School Hong Kong, where he held the position of Principal Deputy Head, and fourteen years at the esteemed Stowe School in the UK.

With senior leadership roles across the UK and international schools, Mr Durrant is well-versed in fostering academic accountability and teaching excellence.
His holistic approach to education, which emphasises pupil wellbeing and academic success, aligns perfectly with Brighton College’s ethos of kindness and community.
Mr Durrant holds a BA (Hons) Degree from University College London, a PGCE from Cambridge University, and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Nottingham.
Commenting on his new role, Mr Durrant said: “I am absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity to lead Brighton College Abu Dhabi, working alongside our outstanding sister schools in Al Ain and Dubai.
“Brighton College Abu Dhabi consistently performs as the top school for A-level and GCSE results. During my recent visit, I was impressed by the culture of kindness, curiosity, and confidence that pervades the school.
“My family and I are looking forward to our move to the UAE and cannot wait to meet the College community and support the staff and pupils in their pursuit of excellence.”
